Welcome to Hotel Hillsboro,

We offer special rates to groups, weddings, and special events.

We are located in the beautiful rolling hills of eastern Vernon County.  The link to www.hillsborowi.com will show you all the recreational activities and events of the area.

Many opportunities present themselves with the Hillsboro area and eastern Vernon County.  We are fortunate to have two state parks located here. The Wildcat Mountain State Park and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve are full of many of the possibilities further mentioned.
  • Bird Watching
Found in the state parks, state trails and many of the rural acres surrounding Hillsboro.
  • ATV
Miles of trails are found in Vernon and adjacent Juneau County.
  • Snowmobiling
Dependent upon the weather, this area has great snowmobiling opportunities. Two local area snowmobile clubs; Hillsboro Trailblazers and Mt. Tabor Moonlight Rider, work extensively on the snowmobile trails of eastern Vernon County.  Juneau and Sauk County have established snowmobile trails and clubs providing assistance with this winter time activity.  Maps are available.
  • Cross Country Skiing
Available at the state parks and on the State trail system for Hillsboro
  • Biking
The Hillsboro State Trail links into the large State Trail System.  The trail was original the Hillsboro & North Eastern Spur, once noted as the "Smallest Railroad in the World" The trail is a 4.5 mile stretch running from the east edge of Hillsboro to Union Center, where it joins the 400 Trail and five miles north, the Elroy-Sparta Trail.  A bathroom facility and parking lot area are found at the Hillsboro Trail head.
  • Golf
A very nice nine hole golf course is found five miles from the hotel, in neighboring Union Center.  Named Spring Valley Golf, a challenging par 36 course, with natural beauty provided by the winding Baraboo River.
  • Area Parks
In addition to the mentioned State parks, Hillsboro has several of its own parks.  The Fields Veteran Memorial Park and Lake , fed by the Baraboo River and located on Hwy. 80 south on the edge of Hillsboro, includes a 48 acre lake with a bathroom facility and handicapped accessible fishing dock. Most of the species of fish found here are smaller and are of the pan fish type. Also located here is the Hillsboro Area Veteran's Memorial.  Two additional parks in Hillsboro have State Historical marker located within them, one marker honors Admiral Marc A. Mitscher, and the other, the early Cheyenne Valley settlers to the area.  Other parks in the community have playground equipment, reunion shelters, tennis and basketball courts and the Hillsboro Historical Museum.
  • Trout Fishing
Very strong in eastern Vernon County; many streams feed the area and are stocked regularly.  Vernon County trout streams are a hidden asset to this beautiful region.  These streams are located a few miles to the west and south of Hillsboro, typically you would find wild brook and brown trout.
  • Hunting
It seems every weekend the community is filled with residents and non-residents that flood the area to take advantage of the great deer and turkey hunts.  Of course many of the lands are privately owned, but 14,600 acres are open to hunting in Vernon County.
  • Mushrooming
An annual spring activity for many of the locals.  Morel mushrooms are abundant in the region and provide a favorite pastime for many, both finding them and eating them.
  • Fall Colors
Always abundant in the fall and following the winding curvy roads through the backwoods is very enjoyable.  Hwy. 33 which goes through eastern Vernon County is a unique road in itself;  it trails right thru Wildcat Mountain State Park.
  • Motorcycling
Very enjoyable in our area due to the many winding State and County Highways, not to mention the local back roads. One business in the area is even highlighting it - BlueHighwayMotorcycleLodge
  • The Cheyenne Valley Road Tour
This tour brings a history lesson for the integration of an early African American settlement to the region west of Hillsboro.  In addition, the tour highlights unique round barns;  the largest concentration of round barns in the United States is found in Vernon County
  • Amish
Many Amish families live on the hill country region surrounding Hillsboro and provide a source of tourism to the area.
  • Organic Farming
Has become a way of live for many of the area farmers.  Vernon County has one of the highest concentration of organic farms in the nation and is home to the largest farmer owned cooperative, Organic Valley
  • Camping
Found in the State Parks. Click to obtain a KVR permit
  • Horseback Riding
Found at the state parks and on select state trails and in neighboring communities.
  • Canoeing
The Kickapoo River is widely know throughout the area and attempts have been made to work on the Baraboo River.
